P2 - F - Target Audience

That Dragon Cancer

That Dragon, Cancer reaches out to and audience that is an untraditional gaming audience, this is because the game is not your typical, point and shoot, adventure, action, game. As it attracts those who look for something different within a game and offers a first person experience.

This genre is a new and growing genre of the gaming world. The game is simplistic to play, which allows for casual gamers to be able to play the game as the controls used to play the game are simple meaning they are point and click.

New Super Mario Bros 2

The target Audience of New Super Mario Bros 2 ranges from a hard-core to casual gamer. With being a platform game it doesn’t have much of a storyline that has to be followed as such, it does have a story behind the game but the game can be play without the knowledge of this, the story is simply there to help the gameplay flow. The plot is very basic this means the game is something which a player can leave for a few days or weeks and still come back to play therefore making it appeal to a casual gamer.

However, it can also appeal to the hard-core/retro gamers who would want to play and complete the game in the shortest time possible with the aim of comparing between the retro Mario Bros games and this new one.

The age of the target audience can also range from those who are younger, as the game is quite straight forward to grasp and understand, to those who are older and are playing the game partly for a sense of nostalgia.

Grand Theft Auto

Due to the highly violent content and age restrictions GTA has only got an adult audience of aged 18 or over. However the audience has proved to be significantly older then 18, a study that Daily Mail online did suggests that gamers who play GTA V Online are considered to be 33% per cent more likely to have children and are twice as likely to be married. Also While most people imagine teenagers staying up all night playing such violent and aggressive games, there was an 'uncharacteristic spike' in the number if 55 to 64-year-olds playing the new game.

Gone Home

The Game is aimed for adults in there 20’s particularly the later twenties or older as they spent more of their childhood in the 90's. This target audience age is is precise since the game is set and takes place in 1995. this doesn't mean that the players have to be born in the 90’s however the scene will mean more to them then it would someone younger. It may bring back a lot of memories from their childhood.

Official Nintendo Magazine gave the game 90% out of 100, however, heavily criticized the game for its 3D effects and lack of progression in the Mario Bros series, summarizing that "New Super Mario Bros. 2 is the very definition of bitter-sweet, giving with one hand and then taking away with the other. By default it's the best side-scrolling platformer on the 3DS and yes, it's even better than the original New Super Mario Bros. But that came out six years ago now, and in that time we'd really expected the series to have progressed a little further than just a 3D effect and Coin Rush mode."
